Apple Watch Detoxing

I’d been using Apple Watch since Series 2 released in 2017, I found it really useful for my everyday life. Apple Watch make my life easy with making and answering call, taking notes, setting reminder, tracking workouts, checking email, timer when cooking and meditation, checking my heart beats before and after workout, even find my phone when I misplaced .

Possibilities are endless to use apple watch as productivity and health care device. I can’t take off from my wrist for many years except for the time it charging . Then I bought another Apple Watch when Series 4 introduce with ECG monitoring. That’s really exciting for me as a GYM Rat at that moment.

But still it’s not support our country (there are tricks to make it work but still useless) and that’s my 1st time I feel odd for the Apple Product. I can use just the same as my old Apple Watch except it’s a bit large screen and quick performance.

Then one day when I do Stoic Journaling, I reflect all my thoughts and things that I am doing and using day to day. I found that what is that thing on my wrist doing it for me and thinking about “Am I too much optimist about it? It’s that one of the thing I attach too much? “. These two question lead me to decide taking a break from Apple Watch.

Before I taking a break from Apple Watch, I pay close attention to the relationship with my apple watch because it’s hard to just leave it alone. I need to find what are the Bad Things this apple watch is doing to me so that I can get rid ( just like every other relationship does ).

So I found that I watch my watch for around 25 times per hour because of the notification I get from Instagram, Telegram, Email and my automations from projects. Even in the meeting whenever my watch Buzz I check my watch by swipe down notifications. 🔔 Notification is the first one I could possible find as bad thing.

Then I found that I got watch stain on my hand ( have to find bad thing ). And the last thing is about charging Apple Watch. Even though I have two Apple Watch and using interchanging each other, just right after charge and the warm feeling of watch make me annoying.

So for all the bad reasons I could possible I switch to my G-Shock watch which I got as birthday present for 15 days and these are the things I found from Apple Watch Detox.

  1. I feel more free, free from technology and still more stress free. Of course G-Shock watch screen isn’t touch screen and not respond Siri but it can done the main purpose of Telling the Time
  2. I found that I use less screen time because my G-Shock not notify me whenever the notification came in.
  3. Timer and Alarm can also be done without Apple Watch too. ( I forgot that for too long )
  4. If I don’t know my heart beat rate, I know I am still alive
  5. And Lastly I can more focus on the every task I do than before.

Sometime we just don’t know how we become a slave of technology. We been manipulated by the marketing of the good marketer. The biggest lesson I learn is I am still noob and fall into other people trap. Still choosing wants over needs. From that moment and lesson I learned, I think I will write down my reason to buy before I buy anything to decide it’s that NEED or WANT.
